exhibit proposal

i am thinking of either doing Kenny and showcaseing his favorite things including his love of dying. i chose kenny because he is my favorite south park character and i would display the exhibit out of papper bag. or plan b doing kitty. she is a 70s housewife who is a fictional character that is loosely based off of red's wife kittie from that 70s show. i will explore what housewifes really do when they are home all day. i would display her out of a suit case from the 70s.

Art Museum Opinion

i had never actually seen the american collection. i thought the frames were sort of gaudy. i really liked the silver room. and i likedd how there was a trail of bread crumbs so to speak. i tend to not like the portraits because they looked to posed but i really liked the portrait of the girl of the ciggrette because there was a lot of emotion in the picture.

t-shirt woes

so my original idea was taking this image and then i ws going to put a June Cleaver dress on her. then my friend Kezia pointed out the secret society of pin up house wives. so i scratched that idea. then i went to dance an we danced to the pink panther theme. so i thought i would use the pink panther and turn him into a pimp. so i was looking for images to merge and i couldn't find any pimp hats facing the right way. so then i looked up gangsters and the hats fit and they did. so i tried to print the transfers at home but my printer ate them. so then i called kinkos and they told me that they don't print on tee shirt transfers. so i used the spray paint and stencil plan and it failed but it is all i got.

movie posters

elephant represents the way that modern high schoolers dont interact with each other.

public enemies reprsents the gangsters and socital sterotypes of the 30's. the movie deals with the capture of john dillinger and his crew who are natorius bank robbers. the costumes and acting are perfect reactments of the 30's.

casablanca is the ideal representation of the early 40's. this movie deals with the invasion of france. the characters are all coming together over lost love and escaping the war. the movie captures the essence of struggles of WWII.

the breakfast club is an ideal representation of teenagers in the 80's. the movie has a jock, brain, princess, basketcase, and a criminal and each of thoes characters accuratly and perfictly portared the typical streotypes of the time. they also realise that they have a lot in common.

Cooley Gallery Response

i was actually a tad bit disappointed. i had expected the collection to cover many mediums. i want to see the rest of the collection tho because i like the study of the nude. i think that with photography as my main medium Edward Weston is the most influential nude photographer at least for me when it comes to photographing the nude. both the collection and Weston both distort the nude and makes the model look like a real women. i enjoyed hearing the curators thoughts on the topics as well.

Text/Image Hunt

I chose this picture (the path and the trees) because long distance relationships are lonely sometimes and this dismal weather and lighting in the picture just seemed to be lonely looking.

I chose this picture (the couple kissing) because it reminded me of an old movie where he goes away for business. This picture is a literal representation of the text.

I chose this picture (the bedroom from a rehab clinic) because it represents a long distance relationship that hopefully will work out for the better. I also thought that the who says long distance relationships never works could have been placed accross the image and then the inage would have been an advertisement in a magazine or something of that nature.

persuaders response

i thought it was intersting how companies paid people handsomelyto create advertisements to try to get consumers to be loyal to a brand. i also thought it was intresting how that one guy related brand lolyaty to cults. i know personally that if ia am aginst a brand or company that i will not buy theproduct even if it is the last product of its type. and if i am for the brand i recommend it to everyone and then some. i think the plane company was sorta scary. but maybe thats just me who knows.

Blog post for week 2

The class has ventured fourth in our text book titled Practices of Looking an Introduction to Visual Culture or POL for short. The text has talked a lot about how the person interprets the images is based on there personal social and political views and upbringing. It also mentioned how when viewing an image form a different era that it might not have the same impact as it would have had on someone who understands what was happening at that time economically, politically, and socially. Something I found interesting while reading that POL pointed out was the intentions of the artist do not always read the same to the viewer. I had never really given that concept much thought. In my previous photography classes I thought the intent of my photographs were pretty clear but maybe they were not.

Blog post for week one

So I was finally able to get this blog working thank to my friend Kriston. I created this blog for a class I am taking called Idea and Form. The class seems pretty interesting and I am excited to get in to it.
I’m sorry my title is so boring. I will get a witty one as soon as one comes to me. My URL is composed of to of my favorite things to do; belly dancing and photography. I will also make the blog pretty and get some pictures eventually.
